Potential Team Names for an Austin / Central Texas MLB Team
Vote in my poll!
Austin Moon Towers - In May 1890, citizens voted to issue $1.4 million in bonds for the city's first power and lighting system as city organizers began developing plans for the growing town. The lighting of the original towers on May 6, 1895 coincided with the first operation of the city power plant and the first citywide use of electricity.Thirty-one light towers wouldn't cover Austin today, but 1895 knew a much different town. The Austin population was 17,000 in 1895, and the University enrolled only 335 students. Today, only 17 of the 31 original towers remain, but they continue to be lit 365 nights a year.

Texas Flood - Not only does it represent the many massive floods that have happened in Texas it also would honor the local Austin native and Rock and Roll Legend Stevie Ray Vaughan and his #1 hit "Texas Flood". Very few cities or states have teams that don't end with an "S". In Baseball - Red Sox and White Sox. None in the NFL, In the NHL there is Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, NBA The Heat, Jazz, Magic. Also, the only other team to be named after an individuals work would be Baltimore Ravens. Named after Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven". Austin being the "Live Music Capital of the World" it seems fitting that we name our baseball team after it's biggest local music legend. Just imagine this song coming on as your Texas Flood takes the field. Would be awesome.
